SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. – Four new track records and a trio of feature victories made for an unforgettable Corn Roast Race weekend for Clayton Otteau at Keystone State Quarter Midget Club on Saturday.
The 12-year-old Otteau, from Bernardsville, N.J., had perhaps the most successful quarter midget outing of his season to date, sweeping qualifying for the four divisions he competed in – Senior Honda, Senior Animal, Light 160, and Light World Formula.
With a quartet of pole laps in hand, Otteau was able to start first in each of the A-Mains that followed, converting three of those into dominant checkered flags when all was said and done.
The only feature Otteau didn’t win was Light World Formula, but the young gun still led 10 laps and appeared in contention for a podium before the handling went away on his car late in the going.
As Otteau wrestled to hang on, he faded back to seventh, but kept the car clean at the finish and recognized that the overall big picture was still worth plenty of celebration.
“What an amazing day Saturday was,” a jubilant Otteau said. “I’m so happy and grateful to have set the track records in all of our cars. Our new setups are working out really well, and a huge thanks for that goes out to Jimmie Phelps for all of his help with the cars.
“I wish we could have gotten the podium in all four cars, but the Formula started feeling tight and was pushing up the track pretty bad by the end of that race. The car became hard to drive, so we will have to see if it was a tire issue or something else before Nationals come around. Still, though, to leave the day with three victories is huge and I can’t thank my family and all of our partners enough for all they do.
“This is the kind of weekend you don’t forget as a driver.”
Otteau would like to thank Race Face Brand Development, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, The Otteau Group, ConTra Group, Level 10 Development, Esposito Construction, The Werks Barbershop, Hoffman Pediatric Dentistry, Almeida Strategic Investments, Jimmie Phelps’ Mission Impossible Racing, Krybaby Performance, Competition Suspension Inc., Storm Chassis, and Laci Photography for their continued support of his racing endeavors.
About Clayton Otteau
Clayton Otteau is a 12-year-old dirt quarter midget and Junior Sprint racer from Bernardsville, N.J., and first-generation driver with aspirations of climbing the motorsports ladder toward NASCAR competition.
After he began in quarter midgets, he learned that his grandfather drag raced and his great-grandfather competed in a Ford race car on dirt in Pennsylvania, further cementing his love for being behind a steering wheel.
At three years old, Otteau began off-roading in a Power Wheels machine, eventually moving into go-karts by the age of seven. He won his first-ever go-kart race and posted the fastest lap that day, to boot.
He turned eight during his rookie year of quarter midget racing in 2021, graduating to the senior classes the next year in both the Northeast Dirt Series and the USAC.25 Series (now the NASCAR Youth Series).
Otteau is currently competing in four quarter midget classes – Senior Honda, Senior Animal, Light 160, and Light World Formula – in addition to select Junior Sprint races, and away from the racetrack is a supporter of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and its mission to better the lives of children and families affected by pediatric cancer.
